Reposted with the kind permission of Yvette Maloney,
Henrys new owner:
After months of waiting, with only pictures
to look at, Henry finally arrived. He stepped off the truck calmly
and settled into to a big dinner, before meeting his 1 year old
clydie brother Conrad; they are now inseparable.
Frequently I find them under a shade tree with Henrys
big head resting over Conrads back.
On the first day of arriving we bonded immediately.
He follows us everywhere soaking up big cuddles around his neck.
I was able to rug and halter him with no dramas.
On day 3 I spotted Henry & Conrad lying down,
so I took the opportunity to see how trusting he could be. I approached
him slowly and he didnt move. He let me put my arms around
him and lean over his back. This was such a great surprise considering
Henrys past experiences. I am now allowed to sit on his
back whilst he is resting which is major step in gaining his trust.
Other things such as worming & foot trimming have been trouble
free too. An important step for me, which I was apprehensive about,
was introducing Henry to our 2 young children, however this too
was a pleasing experience, and surprising as he has not been exposed
to little people.
We had our first ride together a week later and he
was what I expected
..lazy
..but comfortable!
We are delighted to have had Henry join our family.
He is gentle trusting soul that loves attention. His only vice,
apart from his appetite, is that he is slightly jealous when his
brother is getting the attention. Henry has taught his younger
brother some manners, and Conrad has taught him how to play again.
We would like to thank Julie and all the people involved
in getting Henry to us. Our expectations were well and truly exceeded.
We cannot recommend Clydesdale Rescue enough to anybody who is
looking to help a deserving horse find a home or support a worthy
cause.
